What is the nature of matter? This question is still contested. Philosophers met in Palermo from the 10th to the 13th of April to discuss the latest state-of the-art. The conference had the title “Understanding Matter” and was hosted by the Department of the Humanistic Sciences at the University of Palermo. In charge was the new Centro Internazionale per la Ricerca Filosofica. Rainer E. Zimmermann, member of our Scientific Council, organised a panel on the contribution of systems philosophy. Besides Zimmermann, BCSSS Fellow José María Díaz Nafría and BCSSS President Wolfgang Hofkirchner gave presentations.

See here the panel description.

Zimmermann’s presentation on “Morphé – Towards a Transition from Physics to Chemistry”.

Díaz’s presentation on “The Dynamics of Becoming”.

Hofkirchner’s presentation on “Information as Relation and Structure”.
