The German Cultural Council published a position paper dealing with the UN Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development. The BCSSS partner Universal Design Forum e.V. (UDF) , directed by our BCSSS member Thomas Bade, contributed to the recently submitted paper.
Together with other partners of the German Cultural Council the Universal Design Forum e.V. states that sustainable development is a cultural challenge as old patterns, habits, and certainties need to be questioned, in order to engage in new and unknown activities. Cultural traditions and techniques, on the other hand, can get revitalized in order to support sustainable processes and new connections with the cultural heritage provide an opportunity for innovation. As arts and culture are predestined for change processes, taking chances and crossing borders are vital for exploring the unknown. Accessible art and culture and a fair participation in them, as it is promoted by the UDF, empower sustainable development by encouraging change processes.
