Recent literature suggests the appearance of information<\/b> that is coupled to significance<\/b> not only with the advent of biotic agents (\u201cmeaning\u201c in living systems) but already with prebiotic environments, namely, with the existence of agents<\/b> (non-living, physical systems) that <\/b>\u2013\u00a0according to the fourth law of thermodynamics after Stuart Kaufmann \u2013\u00a0 perform a thermodynamic cycle<\/b>, which makes those agents self-organise and generate information before life started.<\/p>\n

That was one issue debated at a meeting called for by the Emergent Systems, Information and Society<\/b><\/a> group backed by the BCSSS<\/b>, the International Society for Information Studies<\/b><\/a>\u00a0(former link here<\/a>) and the Leibniz-Soziet\u00e4t der Wissenschaften<\/b><\/a>.\u00a0Eleven persons followed the call and gathered in Nuremberg<\/b>, Germany, from 7 to 9 October, 2016.<\/p>\n

The programme of the meeting on philosophical foundations of systems and information contained two questions in the context of which further issues were discussed:<\/p>\n
