kam nicht wie der Blitz aus heiterem Himmel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Recent literature suggests the appearance of <b>information<\/b> that is <b>coupled to significance<\/b> not only with the advent of biotic agents (\u201cmeaning\u201c in living systems) but already with prebiotic environments, namely, with the existence of <b>agents<\/b> (non-living, physical systems) <b>that <\/b>\u2013\u00a0according to the fourth law of thermodynamics after Stuart Kaufmann \u2013\u00a0<b> perform a thermodynamic cycle<\/b>, which makes those agents self-organise and generate information before life started.<\/p>\n<p>That was one issue debated at a meeting called for by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bcsss.org\/research\/fields-and-groups\/emergent-systems-information-and-society\/\"><b>Emergent Systems, Information and Society<\/b><\/a> group backed by the <b>BCSSS<\/b>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.is4si.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>International Society for Information Studies<\/b><\/a>\u00a0(<a href=\"http:\/\/www.is4is.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">former link here<\/a>) and the <a href=\"http:\/\/leibnizsozietaet.de\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Leibniz-Soziet\u00e4t der Wissenschaften<\/b><\/a>.\u00a0Eleven persons followed the call and gathered in <b>Nuremberg<\/b>, Germany, from 7 to 9 October, 2016.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bcsss.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/gostenhof.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Nachbarschaftshaus Gostenhof\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bcsss.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/gostenhof.jpg\" width=\"570\" height=\"380\" \/><br \/>\n<\/a><em>The meeting was held at Nachbarschaftshaus Gostenhof (<a title=\"Linkification: https:\/\/www.nuernberg.de\/internet\/nh_gostenhof\/wirueberuns.html\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nuernberg.de\/internet\/nh_gostenhof\/wirueberuns.html\">https:\/\/www.nuernberg.de\/internet\/nh_gostenhof\/wirueberuns.html<\/a>)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The programme of the meeting on philosophical foundations of systems and information contained two questions in the context of which further issues were discussed:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The problem of <b>emergence<\/b> and <b>fields of possibilities<\/b> with respect to philosophical categories of nothingness (the impossible as ground) and non-being (not yet, not any more, or never).<\/li>\n<li>The problem of <b>significance<\/b> with respect to a distinction of <b>energy and mass<\/b>, on the one side, which can be subsumed under the category of matter, and <b>entropy and structure<\/b>, on the other, which can be subsumed under the category of information.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A more detailed report will be available soon.\u00a0The successful discussion shall be continued to outline a philosophically underpinned <b>research programme on systems science and the science of information<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting was supported by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.designscience.de\" target=\"_blank\"
